Committal Services are in a prescribed format. On the day, the family and guests meet in the staging area lanes at the main entrance off Sepulveda Blvd. Please check in at the Information Booth at the entrance of the cemetery off Sepulveda Blvd to be directed to the proper staging area. A representative from the cemetery escorts the family and guests together in a procession to one of the Committal Shelters. Services are not held graveside. The Committal Services are limited to 30 minutes. The first part of the service is reserved for military honors. This typically takes 7-10 minutes. At the conclusion of the military honors, the remaining time can be used by the family in any manner of their choosing. Often this is a time for religious service, eulogy, or personal reflection. Bagpipes During the Committal Service Typically the bagpiper plays three times during the Committal Service:

Chaplain Erica Andersen
(951) 757-5232 https://www.socalclergy.com/ "Let me introduce myself. I am Chaplain Joe's wife of 27 years and counting. At several of my husband commands, I was also the Navy Ombudsman (liaison between the commands and the families). I also served at Activities Coordinator who planned events for the spouses and children at those commands. Having been a military spouse myself all those years, I thrive at being the best choice for your clergy needs. I am a Minister but I prefer to identify as a Reverend. I am here to serve your family at your Veteran or Spouse committal service. I also know all the staff at Riverside National Cemetery as my husband worked there for many years after retiring from the Navy in 2010. I know their procedures as well. I will give your loved one a proper "God & Country" service that I think they deserve. And, I am the only female clergy in the area. I look forward in hearing from you." |
